Life as I knew it
I hit the proverbial wall in the summer of 2013. At that time, I was 75 pounds or more overweight, struggling to walk and extremely depressed and frustrated with my body.
The turning point
After attending my husband’s Ironman fundraiser and seeing photographs of myself, I was appalled. I had completely let myself go. I had purchased a size 18 jean to attend that night’s event. I swore to myself that it was the last straw and that I would do whatever it took to get my health back.
The plan
I made a vow that I would make some serious changes to my diet:
- I cut out sugar
- I cut out fried foods
- I stopped eating white bread and simple carbs
- I drank 80+ ounces of water every day
- I cut all sodium from my diet and I supplemented with Morton’s Lite Salt (2 tsp) each day
- I ate every 2.5 to 3 hours no matter what- with my last meal at least three hours prior to bedtime
Taking it a day at a time
In order to make a big change, you have to make small changes every day. I knew that I had not gained the weight quickly and it wasn’t going to come off quickly. I needed to focus on losing just five pounds at a time, and so that is just what I did. My journey began in September of 2013 and this is my story.
